What is an SR-22?
An SR-22 filing is a legally
binding insurance document issued by an insurance company to
end the suspension order placed on a driver's license by the
Department of Motor Vehicles. The SR-22 certifies that the individual
for whom the filing is being made on behalf of is insured
for at least the minimum auto insurance liability limits required
by law. Also, it certifies to the DMV that if the individual's
insurance policy lapses, the Department of Motor Vehicles will
be notified that the SR-22 filing is cancelled.
How long will
I need an SR-22 Filing?
Typically, you will need an
SR-22 filing for 36 months. However, sometimes an individual
will be required to maintain the filing longer due
to DMV enforcement codes. We strongly recommend that when you go
to the DMV to reinstate your license, you ask a DMV agent for
the exact date that your SR-22 filing requirement ends.
I look forward to your telephone call.
